COMPLETE 12-ISSUE RUN OF "THE SAN FRANCISCO ORACLE" WITH "HARBINGER" NO. 1, THE SO-CALLED "13TH ISSUE". THE VOICE OF HAIGHT-ASHBURY AT THE HEIGHT OF THE COUNTERCULTURE MOVEMENT.

Allen Cohen and Michael Bowen, editors. The San Francisco Oracle. 13 issues, Vol. I, nos. 1-12 (includes 2 variants of no. 9). San Francisco: San Francisco Oracle, September 1966 - January 1968.

WITH Harbinger. 1 issue, No. 1. Middletown, California; Harbinger University Press, [July] 1968. 4to, 24 pages.

One of the most important publications of the Counterculture Era. Published in San Francisco, the paper featured psychedelic artwork, articles concerned with personal liberty, and contributions from the most important counterculture figures of the era, including Allen Ginsberg, Ken Kesey, Buckminster Fuller, Timothy Leary, and Alan Watts. As Haight-Ashbury represented the height of Hippie Culture, the paper became a significant voice for the entire movement.

The single issue of The Harbinger was published by the former staff of the San Francisco Oracle after they had left the city for Middletown in 1968. By all intents and purposes, it is the thirteenth issue of the Oracle, featuring lavish psychedelic artwork continuing the familiar style of its mother publication.

[Newspapers, magazines, Zines, Ephemera, Tabloids, Psychedelics, Counter Culture, Hippies]
