Nominally .58 caliber, flaring to about 1.5". 14.25" three stage octagon to round wedge retained barrel with cannon muzzle. NSN. Brass barrel and furniture, German silver wedge escutcheons, hardwood stock. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading blunderbuss with no markings other than a script "TA" (or "JA") on the top flat of the barrel. 6" flat iron lock is lightly engraved with a an integral rounded, fenced and bridled iron pan and flat facetted swan neck cock, Lock appears to be of English commercial origin, no visible proofs on the exterior of the barrel. Neither the lock nor the barrel could be removed for internal inspection. Lock appears to be in original flint. Includes an old wood ramrod that is about 3" short of full length. The overall quality of the assembly is somewhat lower than expected from an English gun and there are some areas where the furniture is proud of the wood, with the trigger guard in particular not well fit. Ramrod pipes do not match. The gun appears to be a Continental or American restock of older parts, probably assembled in the first quarter of the 19th century, using some somewhat older parts, in particular the lock and barrel.

[ANTIQUE FIREARMS]{MILITARIA][FLINTLCOK]

Good. Bore lightly oxidized with traces of old brass cleaning chemical, which is present in the recesses, nooks and crannies of the barrel's exterior as well. Brass with nicks and dings and a medium butterscotch patina. Lock moderate oxidized with some surface rust and scattered light pitting. Lock remains mechanically functional an appears to be in original flint, but the cock is loose on the tumbler with some wiggle. Breech plug tang broken through the screw hole, triggerguard tang broken through the first screw hole as well. Triggerugard with a hole for a swivel that is no longer present. Wood to metal fit is somewhat indifferent. Wood with an old applied finish, showing numerous bumps, dings and mars, a small repaired chip on the reverse of the forend at the tip, some minor chipping and loss around the lock mortise and some scattered scuffs and marks.
