Ninth plate half-length studio portrait tintypes. N.p., circa 1861-1865. Full thermoplastic case.
A very interesting pair of Civil War soldier portraits, at one time published in the venerable Confederate Calendar as Tennesseans. The soldier on the left, clad in a dark jacket and black wool hat, wears a mischievous, almost disarming expression.
The soldier on the right is more warlike as he brandishes what looks to be a pocket Colt 49 for the camera. Of note is the jaunty tassel hanging from his own black slouch cap and most especially his gingham-print shirt. The artist embellished this flashy garment with red tinting.
