The lot includes:
1. No. 1499. "Camp Life, Army of the Potomac / Warrior's Rest." A stereoview depicting a large group of Union soldiers resting beneath a rough wooden shelter in camp. The men are seated and reclining together on the ground and on makeshift supports, perhaps showcasing a brief moment of relaxation at the camp. View titles, and series title "Camp Life, Army of the Potomac / Warrior's Rest." printed to mount recto.
2. Untitled. A stereoview depicting a group of Union soldiers outdoors in front of a line of tents. Arranged seated and standing in one large group, the soldiers can be seen armed with rifles and revolvers. Some notable details include that two of the men appear to be smoking pipes, while another, identified as Captain Albert W. Bartlett, is shown reading a paper to the left of the group.
3. Untitled. A striking stereoview depicting a group of Union soldiers gathered closely together in front of a tent. The soldiers are posed in a tight formation, both seated and standing, with a number standing with rifles at their side; all can be seen with revolvers either in hand or tucked at the waist. Soldiers as listed from left to right: Egbert Oswell Hixon, Joseph A.P. Whitney, Josiah L. Elder, Isreal A. Trask, 1st Lieutenant J. Henry Williams, 2nd Lieutenant Charles O. Akinson, William H. Berry, and George A. Foxcroft.
Camp Essex was a Union encampment established near Alexandria, Virginia, during the early years of the Civil War. It served as a winter camp and staging area for regiments of the Army of the Potomac, particularly Massachusetts units.
