An antique wooden bucket with attribution to the Mohican-class sloop-of-war USS Kearsarge, best known for her surprising defeat of the famed CSS Alabama off Cherbourg, France.
On 19 June 1864, the newly ironclad USS Kearsarge awaited the Alabama outside the neutral French port Cherbourg. Semmes, unaware of the Kearsarge's recent upgrades, engaged, but was bested in the single-ship action.
