Silk printed ribbon of U.S. Senator Stephen Douglas. N.p., [1860].  2 1/2 x 2 1/4 in.

 

A rare silk ribbon from the 1860 Presidential Election featuring an engraved portrait of Democratic candidate Stephen Douglas (1813 - 1861) by J. C. Buttre, after a photograph by Mathew Brady, with a facsimile signature.

 

Produced in a set of four, with a single Brady portrait representing each of the candidates. The Douglas ribbon is considered the scarcest of the set.
