A. H. Ritchie, engraver. Sherman's March to the Sea. Photolithograph. Hartford, Conn.: H. H. Willes, [ca. 1883]. Approx. 27 1/2 x 16 in., matted and framed to 41 1/2 x 31 1/2 in.

A fine, large lithograph depicting Sherman's famous "March to the Sea". Artist Felix Octavious Carr Darley (1822-1888) captures a chaotic scene, with Union soldiers chopping down telegraph poles, pulling up railroad tracks, killing cattle, and destroying homes. The march would take Sherman's forces Southeast through Georgia from Atlanta.
