Full-length seated albumen CDV studio portrait of William Tecumseh Sherman. Chicago, IL: S. M. Fassett, [June 1865]. Photographer's imprint to verso.
SIGNED WITH RANK BY WILLIAM TECUMSEH SHERMAN to lower recto margin, along with his rank of Major General.
An extremely rare view of Major General William Tecumseh Sherman writing at a small table, books stacked at his side and his hat at his feet. He wears his military uniform, with his Major General two-star straps prominent. Taken by Chicago photographer Samuel Fassett, this portrait was almost certainly captured during Sherman's two-week trip to Chicago in June 1865.
One of the rarest views of General Sherman.
