A scarce presentation portrait inscribed by General Sherman and dated 1889. Taken later in life. Sherman wears the uniform of the Commanding General of the U.S. Army with dress epaulettes, sash, and officer's sword at his side, one hand resting on the pommel. Never one to prefer a hat, he holds his elaborate headgear in his other hand.
