.52 caliber. 22" barrel. SN: 44048. Blued and color casehardened finish, iron furniture, walnut stock and forend. Single shot breechloading percussion carbine with folding short ladder rear sight, German silver front sight blade in iron base and sling swivel in toe of stock rather than the more common sling bar and ring. Standard Sharps barrel, lock and receiver markings. Left of breech with a small CWH inspection mark and a weak cartouche is present at the wrist that is not legible.
A small number of New Model 1859 Carbines were delivered to the US Navy without the standard sling bar and ring and with a sling swivel in the toe of the stock. This is a scarce variant carbine for the Civil War navy collector or Sharps specialist.

Very Good. Bore about very good with moderate oxidation, patches of brightness, some light pitting and good rifling. Metal with an attractive plum brown patina with some minute traces of original finish in protected areas. Markings remain mostly clear and legible in the metal, weak in wood. Mechanically functional action. Priming system appears complete, but does not seem to be completely functional. Wood with moderate wear and showign scattered bumps, dings and mars.
