Oval "sheet-iron" CS belt buckle. Die-stamped sheet iron. Scrap metal brass hooks soldered to reverse. 3 7/16 x 2 1/4 in. Kerksis 281; Mullinax 131-132.
A very rare example of the only known buckle fabricated from ferrous metal by the Confederates. Possibly made from the same plates used to manufacture the so-called "Breckinridge" CS buckle (see #3), with very similar letters. These iron plates are only found in Western Theater sites.
