.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained barrel bands. NSN. Heavily oxidized metal, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion altered smoothbore muzzleloading musket with no rear sight, brass blade front sight, sling swivels and a steel button head ramrod. Lock markings are weak but the vertical three lines at the tail are legible, reading "MIDDN/CONN/1838". Barrel with a raised "P" in a depressed sunburst proof and no barrel date is visible on the tang. No cartouches are present. The flint touchhole is filled with an old square nail, not something found on US arsenal alterations, despite the fact the gun is otherwise a cone-in-barrel type alteration. One would be hesitant to stand in a line of battle to the right of the soldier carrying this musket, lest the nail decide to leave the touchhole and enter your left temple. A really cool looking, totally untouched musket that probably has some southern heritage. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore dark, dirty, heavily oxidized and pitted. Metal in similar condition with a thickly oxidized dark brown patina some evenly scattered surface roughness and some pitting, particularly around the breech. Markings are weak. Lock mechanically functional. Wood with moderate wear and areas of chipped loss, particularly around the middle band on the reverse of the forend and around the breech plug tang. Otherwise the wood shows scattered bumps, dings and mars.
