Studio shot of a Confederate soldier in uniform holding a rifle. This soldier was a member of Company H of the 5th Virginia Infantry, or the “Fighting Fifth,” according to the insignia on his kepi. The Fighting Fifth organized on 7 May 1861 and became a part of the Stonewall Brigade under Gen. Stonewall Jackson (1824-1863). The regiment saw action from the Seven Days’ Battle to Cold Harbor, fighting in the Battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg.
