.54 caliber. 9" barrel secured by a single flat double strapped barrel band with a Wickham's Improvement stud. NSN. Nicely oxidized metal, iron furniture, smooth walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading percussion altered smoothbore pistol made without rear sight, with brass blade front sight, and an old wooden ramrod. Percussion altered lock with standard Simeon North markings, barrel with "P / US" inspection mark and stamped "S.N.Y." indicating ownership by the state of New York. Traces of a script "LS" (Luther Sage) cartouche are present on the counterpane of the pistol. The percussion alteration was performed with a drum bolster and a civilian percussion hammer. A nice, untouched example of a percussion altered 1816 pistol that may well have seen service as late as the Civil War period. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore rusty and dark. Metal with nice, uncleaned brown patina with moderate oxidation, some surface roughness, and some pitting around the breech area. Markings remain mostly clear and legible in metal, weak in wood. Not mechanically functional, no mainspring is present. Wood with moderate wear and a couple of crack in the counterpane. Otherwise with nicks, dings and mars.
