Wonderful photographic archive related to a Confederate soldier, possibly from North Carolina based on oral provenance. This grouping includes a ninth plate-sized ambrotype of an armed young Rebel who looks to be just a boy. He holds a rifled musket across his chest - and seems dwarfed by its size. This image is housed in a lovely thermoplastic case with two slots for ninth plate images; a companion image to the left of the solder depicts a very young boy, perhaps the soldier's brother, dressed in a plain jacket. Also included is a period copy quarter plate-sized tintype of the soldier's ambrotype. Tastefully done in a vignette style, it is cased in an attractive and desirable thermoplastic frame. We note that period copies such as these were commonly produced as memorial pieces after a soldier's death. A large mounted photograph of thirteen well-dressed young men completes the grouping. This may be a copy of an earlier albumen image; the man seated second from the far right in the first row resembles the soldier. This is a wonderful archive of a Confederate soldier who may have given all for his cause.
