A grouping of two (2) ambrotypes featuring William M. Faulconer of the 8th Kentucky Calvary, and his wife, Mrs. Lucy Parker Faulconer.

William Faulconer (1825-1902), a respected painter and contractor prior to the Civil War mustered into Company A of the 8th Kentucky Cavalry on 10 September 1862. He was quickly transferred under the command of Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan (1825-1864), where he would take part in the diversionary attack of the Confederate cavalry into the Union territory of Ohio known as Morgan's Raid. It was during this campaign that Faulconer would be captured and taken prisoner at Camp Douglas, one of the largest Union prisoner-of-war camps with a noted reputation for being very poor in condition. Faulconer would be kept there for two years before finally returning home to Lexington, Kentucky.

1. Sixth plate studio portrait ambrotype. [Kentucky]: N.p., n.d. Full thermoplastic case with floral motif.

A striking view of William Faulconer, dressed in full cavalry uniform, staring intently at the photographer's lens. In one hand he brandishes a sword across his chest, resting upon his shoulder. In the other hand, crossed in front of the sword, is a pistol which he holds, finger locked in trigger position. A proud photograph of a Confederate soldier who fought in Morgan's Raid and endured the hardships of Camp Douglas.

2. Ninth plate studio portrait ambrotype. [Kentucky]: N.p., n.d. Full thermoplastic case with floral motif. Hand-tinted and gilt.

A charming view of Lucy Parker Faulconer (1835-1916), wife of William Faulconer. A beautifully gilt brooch festoons her off-shoulder gown, while a necklace elegantly drapes around her neck. Her hair is charmingly curled into ringlets draping behind her neck. Rings can be seen from the edge of her relaxed hand. Lucy Parker Faulconer resided next to the parents of William Faulconer before their marriage in 1866. The couple had two children together.
