.44 caliber. 8" barrel. SN: 109968 (mfg. ca. 1862). No finish remaining, brass triggerguard, smooth one-piece walnut grip. Single action percussion revolver with three screw frame cut for stock, unfluted rebated six-chambered cylinder, hammer nose notch rear sight, German silver front sight blade and creeping loading lever. One line "New-York U.S. America" Colt barrel address, standard markings throughout with weak sub-inspections and traces of illegible cartouches cartouches. All visible numbers match, including the wedge. Wedge screw missing. A check of the Springfield Research Service Serial Number books did not find this serial number, but Colt 1860 Army #109972, only 4 numbers away, was issued to Company G of the 3rd Kentucky Cavalry.

Fair to Good. Bore dark and pitted with visible rifling. Metal chemically cleaned to a dull silvery-gray color with scattered oxidation and age discoloration and showing some scattered pitting. Markings in metal mostly visible, very weak in wood. Mechanically functional action with a very weak mainspring that is probably replaced or cracked. One nipple is broken. Grip well worn and lightly sanded with some chips and dings.
