Early M1862 Joslyn Carbine .52caliber. SN 1167. Brass mounts, including buttplate and barrel band. Traces of original case and blue noted. Inspector's marks present. Lock marking "Joslyn Fire Arms Co / Stonington / Conn". Top of breechblock marked "B.F. Joslyn's Patent / October 8th 1861 / June 24th 1862 / 1167". Walnut stock shows normal wear. "TJN" carved into the buttstock. Barrel 22 in. Overall 38 3/4 in.
The US Government purchased 2,200 Joslyn carbines, with another approximately 1,300 sold commercially.
