One of 5000 that the Ames Manufacturing Company was contracted to produce in 1859. Widely used during the Civil War, the m1860 saber was considered a lighter, more maneuverable weapon than its predecessor, the m1840 “Wristbreaker.” The light cavalry saber weighed about 3 ½ pounds in the scabbard.
