Reproduction of a Federal M1841 6-pounder field gun cannon. Embossed "US" on top of tube between trunnions. Iron tube diam. approx. 3 2/3 in., approx. 63 in. from muzzle to cascabel and approx. 56 1/2 in. inside bore length. Overall with carriage approx. 79 x 125 x 58 in.
A high-grade reproduction of a Civil War-era M1841 6-pounder field gun. First popularized during the Mexican-American War, it could fire a 6.1 lb round shot up to 1,523 yards away at a 5° elevation, as well as canister and spherical case shots. These cannons were at first prolific when the Civil War broke out, but they were soon replaced by the newer M1857 12-pounder Napoleon starting in 1862.
