Sixth plate half-length studio portrait tintype. [Tennessee], circa 1861-1865. Trimmed image is approx. 2 x 2 1/4 in. Half leatherette case. Subject identified as T. Wyme in inscription to image verso.

One of the most recognizable "Confederate Faces," this image of Tennessee soldier T. Wyme is the exact image pictured on the front cover of More Confederate Faces by William A. Albaugh III. He is also pictured with his brother, F.W. Wyme, in the same book.

Easily one of the most unique Civil War images in existence, the jovial Wyme sits within close range of the camera with his legs crossed. He brings a powder horn to his lips while balancing the barrel of his shotgun over his shoulder — a playful pose likely unique among solder images. He wears a large black slouch hat and dark frock, both of which were embellished with gold gilt by the photographer. A rectangular belt plate also received this treatment.
