Sixth plate half-length studio portrait ambrotype. [Texas], circa 1861-1865. Half leatherette case. Accompanied by Pat Booth's printed identification.

Compelling and razor-sharp image of a Confederate soldier identified by oral provenance as Henry Brigham, Company K, 9th Texas Cavalry, also known as Sims' Regiment. Brigham sat for his likeness clad in his dark mounted shell jacket and heavy grey undershirt, with a pocket watch chain as his only flair.

Sims' cavalry was formed early in the War in North Texas. They first fought against hostile tribes in Indian Territory before moving to Arkansas for the Battle of Pea Ridge. They eventually dismounted and battled in some of the largest battles of the western theater, including Corinth, Franklin, and the Atlanta Campaign. Brigham survived it all, living until 1920 when he died at his home in Greenfield, Texas. His portrait survives as a visual artifact of a hard-fighting Lone Star horse soldier.
