Sixth plate half-length studio portrait tintype. N.p., circa 1861-1865. Full leatherette case.

Portrait of a young Rebel wearing the regulation uniform of a Confederate first lieutenant. His grey double-breasted frock coat features a double row of buttons, a double bar collar rank, and ornate gold "Austrian knots" on his sleeves. The collar and sleeves are tinted light blue, which denote infantry as his branch of service. This tint matches the color of his pants, which feature a thick stripe down the side. A dark matching officer's kepi completes his look.

He cradles a sword that features an eagle-head pommel, a popular design among militias who operated in the pre-Civil years. Despite his martial bearing there is a young innocence about him. His identity (and fate) is thus far undiscovered.
