British p1853 light cavalry saber. [London, England]: [S.] Isaac[, Campbell] & Co., n.d. Stamped "Isaac & Co" to spine, "G" to ricasso. Blade 34 1/2 in. Overall 41 7/8 in. long.

Swords stamped by the British firm of S. Isaac, Campbell & Co. were expressly made for the Confederacy. While the firm predated the Confederate States, it did so solely as a producer of boots and leather goods for the British military and militias. Operations would cease as the American Civil War drew to a close.

The large "G" to the blade indicates that this sword was imported into Georgia. Though other Georgian examples were also marked with the same to each side of the scabbard, this example's scabbard remains unmarked.

The blade and guard each exhibit a dark, even patina. One side of the Patent Solid Hilt leather grip is roughly crazed, while the other retains some clear, defined checkers, gilt with white metal. The original leather washer is present.
