 The young man in the top left is seen in a full Union soldier's uniform, with gilt applied to his buckles and buttons. He is posed with a rifle affixed with a bayonet. Interestingly, portrait of the older man (perhaps the soldier's father?) shows him brandishing a revolver. Though too old to enlist, it may have been taken to show his desire to fight.
