18 1/4 in. spear point, semi-wasp-waisted blade. Sand cast brass hilt with fish scale-patterned grip with rivets. Sheet brass half-basket guard with rolled edge reinforcement. Overall 23 5/8 in.
Unmarked, the blade was possibly manufactured by Agrider H. Dufilho of New Orleans. The coarse, sand-cast surface was designed to create a better grip in the slippery conditions faced by seamen.
