British p1853 light cavalry saber. [London, England]: [S.] Isaac[, Campbell] & Co., n.d. Stamped "Isaac & Co" to spine. Blade 33 13/16 in. Overall 41 in. long.
Swords stamped by the British firm of S. Isaac, Campbell & Co. were expressly made for the Confederacy. While the firm predated the Confederate States, it did so solely as a producer of boots and leather goods for the British military and militias. Operations would cease as the American Civil War drew to a close.
The blade bears an overall dark patina, with spots of pitting throughout. The guard is also darkly patinated. One side of the Patent Solid Hilt leather grip is crazed smooth, but the other presents clear, defined checkers. The original leather washer is present.
