A pair of fine leather Confederate firearm accouterments. Items include:

1. Cartridge box. Hand-inscribed "G. L. D." to exterior flap. Box plate impression and loop holes. Lead finial. Approx. 7 3/4 x 2 1/4 x 6 1/2 in.

This is a fine example of a Confederate cartridge box, complete with the delicate imperfections so characteristic of domestic Southern manufacturing. The impression left behind by the boxplate measures 3 3/8 x 2 1/4 in. To the right of the carved initials are 2 clearly intentional pairs of parallel lines, the left pair shorter than the right.

Both original tin box inserts are present and undamaged. The latch tab is intact, as are the reverse belt loops, but one of buckles is partially disconnected due to a separation in the leather which has evidence of attempted repairs or reinforcements.

2. Leather percussion cap box. Lead finial. Interior filled with newspapers ca. 1970. Approx. 4 x 1 3/4 x 3 1/2 in.

There is a repaired separation to the latch tab, else undamaged.
