Sixth plate half-length studio portrait ambrotype. N.p., circa 1861-1865. Separated full leatherette case.
Exceptional portrait of a Confederate soldier posing with what looks like a new Colt Navy revolver across his chest. His burly shell jacket features wide dark trim on the cuff, collar, and chest pocket. A single row of at least 6 buttons are gilded. While a specific unit match remains elusive, similar jackets were used in states such as Georgia. Regardless, it is a bold and well-constructed garment.
The image itself is so clear that you can make out very fine details such as the weave of his clothing and what appears to be original case color on his firearm. The overall quality of the plate ranks it among the finest examples in this collection.
