Grouping of original regulation uniform components for a Civil War cavalryman. The lot includes:
1. m1851 stamped brass cavalry insignia. Reverse with 2 original attachment pins. 1 3/4 x 3 5/16 in.
A "crossed sabers" insignia was worn on the crown of a forage cap, kepi, or slouch hat. Fine condition.
2. m1851 waist belt plate with narrow tongue. Lacking keeper. 2 1/16 x 3 1/4 in.
A regulation sword belt plate issued to cavalrymen, as well as artillerymen and infantry non-commissioned officers. This pattern features a three-piece applied German silver wreath surrounding the eagle design.
3. Pair of Civil War first lieutenant shoulder straps. Each 4 x 1 1/2 in.
Wool cloth faded to beige/white with gold bullion first lieutenant bars and borders in gold bullion with jaceron trim on all edges. The wool was likely originally yellow, indicating cavalry, now faded to off-white.
