54-bore (.44 caliber). 6" octagonal barrel. SN: 4434. Blued and color casehardened finish, checkered two piece walnut grips. Double action solid frame percussion revolver based upon the Adams 1851 and 1854 patents with the grip angle and design more like a Webley Wedge frame revolver. The gun features a replaced Kerr style loading lever, a frame notch rear sight and a dovetailed front sight blade. Topstrap engraved with the retailer mark "JD DOUGALL LONDON". Barrel and cylinder with Birmingham commercial proof marks. The revolver is contained in a more modern wood case with a dark blue velvet lined compartmentalized interior. The accessories include an incorrectly sized 80-bore (.38 caliber) dual cavity Adams style brass mold and a copper powder flask. 

James D Dougall was a Glasgow based gun maker and retailer who worked circa 1842-1893. The firm became James Dougall & Son in 1880 and remained in business through 1903. He maintained a London premises from 1862-1881 at 59 St, James's Steet, with Dougall & Son maintaining that London location through 1893. Dougall received several British patents for firearms development and authored at least two books on the subject of firearms and shooting. {ANTIQUE}

Good, Bore dark, moderately oxidized with some pitting and decent rifling. Metal moderately oxidized with a mottled brownish gray patina, some scattered surface roughness and some minor pitting here and there. Markings remain legible. Mechanically functional action. Loading lever replaced and somewhat ill-fitting. Grip with some wear, dings and marks. Case with moderate wear and some interior damage and some loose dividers. Accessories about good to very good.
