An artful display of ninety-six (96) soldiers' relics, mostly Confederate, assembled and arranged in a 43 3/4 x 4 x 37 in. frame by Civil War author and collector Malcolm "Mac" Everett Mason, jr. (1913-1990). "Dedicated to the Cavalry Corps Army of Northern Va." Items of note include:
1. A Colt m1851 navy revolver, excavated "on old Brook Road just north of Yellow Tavern; all cylinders loaded," in April 1975.
2. A large D-guard bowie knife with its original scabbard, excavated at Fort Magruder, Virginia.
3. A complete 1st Virginia Cavalry martingale.
4. The tip and counter-poise from a 6th Pennsylvania Rush's Lancers lance.
5. Twenty-five (25) cavalry spurs, collected from various battlefields.
6. A pair of Sheffield-style Bowie knives.
7. A French-manufactured cavalry bugle found in Richmond.
8. A telescope found at Cold Harbor.
9. Three (3) pairs of spectacles, one with green-tinted glass.
10. A .58 caliber Confederate socket bayonet.
11. A pair of picket pins, one decidedly Confederate.
12. Thirteen (13) belt buckles, belt plates and breast plates, both Union and Confederate, collected from various battlefields, incl. one bullet-struck plate.
Additional items include soldiers' personal effects, uniform components, and partial and complete accouterments. A full list of the relics is available upon request.
