34-star printed cotton parade flag. circa 1861-1863. Approx. 22 5/8 x 14 5/8 in.
34 printed stars configured in an unusual and attractive medallion pattern. A larger central star is flanked by 3 stars, which are surrounded by a ring of 14 stars, and the canton is completed by a 16-star border.
The 34th star pattern became the official flag of the United States when Kansas was admitted to the Union in January 1861, the final state admitted before the outbreak of the Civil War.
A wonderful patriotic display piece.
