Three (3) Civil War recruitment calling cards for Union military service, including two referencing Colonel Rush, a Philadelphia-area officer known for being involved in raising cavalry units for the Union army. 

 

The lot includes:

 

1. Recruitment card for "Col. Rush's Cavalry", directing potential enlistees to the Good Intent Hose House where Lieutenants Cadwalader and Whitehead are listed as receiving recruits. Approx. 3 5/8 x 2 1/8 in.

 

2. "Colonel Rush's Light Cavalry, Company K" Recruitment card, noting that the unit is currently searching for active men and stating it will be fully equipped with horses, arms, and clothing. Captain Howard Miller and Lieutenant T. W. Neill are named as officers at the recruiting station; enlistment wages are printed on the verso. Approx. 3 1/4 x 1 7/8 in.

 

3. Recruiting card for the "Juniata Regiment" as overseen by Colonel WM. D. Lewis Jr., calling for volunteers in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and listing enlistment headquarters at 229 Walnut Street, Philadelphia. Approx. 3 1/4 x 2 in.
