A group of three (3) Confederate belt buckles, including:
1. Rectangular CSA Virginia-Style belt buckle. Sand-cast brass, cast brass hooks. 2 3/4 x 1 15/16 in. Kerksis 302; Mullinax 084-091.
A typical "Virginia-style" buckle, so-called thanks to early finds in the state. Great quantities, however, have been found near Murfreesboro and Tullahoma, Tennessee. Typically thinner than the Atlanta Arsenal style with more-centered letters and large, rounded periods.
A nice non-excavated example.
2. Excavated rectangular CSA Atlanta Arsenal-style buckle. Sand-cast brass, with cast brass hooks, lacking 2. 2 3/4 x 1 7/8 in. Kerksis 299-301; Mullinax 066-081.
A typical "Atlanta Arsenal" style CSA rectangular buckle with large, clear letters, small periods, and thick borders. They were almost certainly manufactured in Atlanta and primarily used in the Western Theater. Evidently, this example has a high copper content displaying an interesting overall verdigris patina
