Two (2) Civil War-era bayonets, including:
1. M1855 bayonet with Gaylord-type leather scabbard. Unmarked, scabbard marked "OHIO". Blade 18 in., overall, 21 in. long. Bore measures 49/64 in.; socket length is 3 in.
The United States Model 1855 socket bayonet was the most widely issued bayonet throughout the Union. Though M1855 bayonets are ordinarily compatible with .58 caliber weapons, this example's locking ring is frozen.
2. P1853 bayonet. Stamped "F. PRESTON / MANCHESTER". Blade 17 1/4 in., overall, 20 5/8 in. long. Bore measures 25/32 in.; socket length is 3 in.
Manufactured in England for use with the .577 caliber Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle-musket, British Pattern 1853 socket bayonets were imported by both the Union and Confederacy, though this example bears no marks reflecting use in the war. The locking ring is mobile but missing its screw. The blade exhibits uniform pitting and patina.
