7-star First National Confederate silk Bible flag. 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 in.

Bible flags are unique in their own right as these were typically made by loved ones and sent with a soldier as they left for war. These personal items represent the patriotism felt by those mustering in during the early days of the war.

This 1st National (Stars & Bars) pattern bible flag made of silk has the stars embroidered on the blue canton. This potentially represents a very early piece as the number of stars correlates with the first 7 states that seceded before Virginia joined. Though the hoist edge is tattered and folded over, the flag otherwise remains intact.
