INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO FRONT FREE ENDPAPER: "Frank Moore Esq / With the author's kind regards / March 8, 186[3?]." 

 

A pleasing wartime publication featuring biographies of Illinois officers complimented by lithographed portraits throughout. Compiled by James Grant Wilson (1832-1914), an accomplished author and bookseller who also served as a major of the 15th Illinois Cavalry Regiment, enlisting late in 1862. He would eventually command the 4th United States Colored Troops (USCT).
