After duty in Kentucky, their first major engagement was the Battle of Hartsville, where the regiment was captured. They were paroled as prisoners of war until they were declared exchanged on April 1863. The company returned to the Western Theater, engaging with more success at the Battle of Chickamauga and the Siege of Chattanooga. They joined Sherman's Atlanta Campaign, March to the Sea, and Carolina's Campaign, witnessing Johnson surrender to Sherman. Treudt mustered out after the Grand Review of Armies on 6 June 1865 at Washington, D.C.
