Anonymous artist Tibetan
Vajrakilaya Yab Yum Mandala thangka
Acrylic on fabric (silk?)
Mounted on brocade silk as a hanging scroll
A beautiful Tibetan Vajrakilaya (वज्रकीलाय) mandala. The wrathful tantric form of the Buddha Vajrasattva, he is a powerful heruka yidam deity capable of removing obstacles and destroying forces hostile to compassion. Though his visage is atypically meditative, his dark blue skin, many arms, three heads, elephant- and tiger-hide garb, and light blue-skinned consort Diptachakra identify him.
