Damascus patterned brown finish, color casehardened lock, German silver furniture, checkered relief carved European hardwood stock with raised cheek rest, horn forend tip and carved sliding patchbox. Single shot muzzleloading percussion rifle with double set triggers, fixed and folding leaf rear sight, dovetailed front sight blade, sling swivel in forend, sling button in toe of stock and a brass tipped wooden ramrod. Back action percussion lock with hammer block safety is profusely engraved with a forest and target shooter scene, with high foliate scrolls around the hammer area. The hammer, breech and tang are all engraved ensuite with similar tight foliate scrolls. Hammer nose with engraved sea serpent motif. Top flat of barrel engraved "P SCHULER SUHL". Bottom of buttplate numbered "43". Wrist and forend with tight checkering, reverse butt with raised carved flowing floral motifs. No "P Schuler" is found in Heer her Neue Stockel, but several Shulers worked in Suhl during the mid-19th century, and this gun as likely made by a member of that family. A really lovely Jaeger rifle that displays quite nicely. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore dark and oxidized with some pitting and fine, deep rifling. Metal with much of the thinning and fading Damascus patterned brown finish intact. Metal lightly oxidized with scattered flecks of surface roughness. Engraving and markings remain clear and crisp. German silver with a yellowish patina and old dried oil or varnish that makes it look almost like brass. The pistol grip of the triggerguard scroll is covered in leather. Lock is mechanically functional but needs mechanical attention as the set trigger does not function. Wood crisp with nice checkering and carving but with a repaired break that passes through the entire lock mortise and belly of the rifle. Otherwise wood with scattered bumps, dings and mars from handing and use. Patchbox lid is stuck and will not slide, brass base of patchbox replaced.
