20 Bore (about .42 caliber). 28.25" two stage octagon to round barrel. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture, carved walnut stock with raised cheek piece and horn forend cap. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading air gun with ball reservoir air storage system, fixed notch rear sight, blade front sight and brass tipped wooden ramrod. Unmarked. Made in a form similar to Northwest Gun trade fowlers of the late 18th century with a semi "serpent" style sideplate that appears to be a more modern replacement, corrugated ramrod pipes, and the classic two-stage flower barrel. The copper ball reservoir appears to be of more recent vintage and a spare modern plunger system for the reservoir is included as well. An interesting and attractive air gun that could date any time from the mid-18th through the first quarter of the 19th centuries and is likely of English origin. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore moderately oxidized. Metal more heavily oxidized with evenly distributed light to moderate pitting and a mottled gray patina. Action appears functional in terms of the lock but it is not possible to test the reservoir, piston, seals, etc. It appears that a cover for the charging hole in the top of the breech is missing. Rear sight is a more recent replacement, ball reservoir appears to be modern as well. Wood lightly sanded with some added finish,  a repaired crack forward of the lock mortise, and showing numerous bumps, dings, mars, dents and small round dings.
