A group of two (2) early Federal almanacs, each featuring patriotic language and early government information. Items include:
1. John Nathan Hutchins (d.1782), [Andrew Beers (1749-1824)]. Hutchins Improved: Being an Almanack and Ephemeris...for the Year of Our Lord 1785. New York: H. Gaine, [1784].
12mo, 34 pages (of 36, lacking last leaf). Anatomy illustration. Original wrappers, disbound, later string sewing. FIRST EDITION. Drake 5920.
Though still printed under the name of the original author, John Nathan Hutchins, who had died in 1782, the calculations were executed by Andrew Beers.
2. Eben W. Judd. The United States Almanac, for the Year of Our Lord 1794. Elizabeth-town, [New Jersey]: Shepard Kollock, [1793].
12mo, 36 pages. Anatomy illustration. Original wrappers, disbound, later string sewing. FIRST EDITION. Drake 5161.
Rear material includes a complete listing of the Federal Government, naming George Washington as President and John Adams as Vice President alongside all of the Senators and Representatives for each state. Interestingly, the salaries of public officers is printed followed by information on the Post Office, the Supreme Courts of New Jersey and New York, and A list of Quaker General Meeting locations and times.
