Abraham Solomon Waldstein (1874-1932). What is Poale Zionism? New York: Verlag Kaempfer, [1911].

Small 8vo, 30 pages. Original dark yellow carstock wrappers, staple-bound as issued. Presumed FIRST EDITION.

A very rare early Marxist-Zionist pamphlet outlining the Poale mission to organize Jewish proletariats. "Zionism is...not only a means of national preservation, it is a means of elevation of the spiritual and material welfare of the Jewish people." (p. 14).

Poale Zionism was a movement of Marxist-Zionist Jewish workers from cities in central Europe, Poland, and Russia, founded in 1900. A core belief was that a Jewish proletariat would form in the Land of Israel and would then take part in the class struggle.

VERY RARE. OCLC locates only 3 copies, held at the Yivo Institute for Jewish Research (New York), the New York Public Library, and the National Library of Israel.

[Judaica, Zionism, Marxism, Socialism, Communism, Left-Wing Politics, Pamphlets, Ephemera, Jewish History]
