Excellent group of three (3) landscape stereoviews of Yosemite, including a remarkable view of P.T. Barnum visiting the park.

Each mounted on yellow cardstock mount published by John Soule of Boston, with series title "California.--Yo-Semite Valley," view title, publisher's imprint, and copyright statement to rectos. Views include:

1. 1219. Yo-Semite Fall, (2634 ft. high) from near Sentinel House, P.T. Barnum and Party.

A remarkable historic view capturing America’s preeminent showman and impresario, P.T. Barnum (1810-1891, accompanied by his traveling entourage, posed in a meadow clearing directly before the plunging falls. Barnum and four gentlemen stand in dark frock coats and top hats/bowlers, flanked by two seated companions in the grass.

2. 1173. Vernal and Nevada Falls from Glacier Point, Mt. Hoffman in Distance. Extensive ink annotation to mount verso.

A dramatic high-altitude vista capturing the cataracts and sheer granite peaks of the Sierra Nevada. An extensive period ink annotation to the mount verso reads in part: "In this view the spectator standing upon "Glacier Point"...and looking Easterly, toward "Little Yosemite Valley," Of the two perpendicular water-falls, seen in the central portion of this picture, the first (the "Vernal Fall") is about 30 feet in height; the second (the "Nevada Fall," at the right of the "Cap of Liberty,") is about 700 feet high. The "Cap of Liberty" (Indian "Mah-ta") a singularly shaped peak (sec. Nos. 639, 86, 109.) =4240 feet high...is seen at the left of the "Nevada Falls""

3. 1134. The Sentinel House—Yo-Semite Valley. N.A. Plympton & Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts retailer imprint affixed to mount verso.

A charming architectural and environmental study showing the iconic frontier hotel buildings nestled beneath towering ponderosa pines, with a small group of visitors gathered on the porch and horseback mounts resting near giant cedar stumps.

In the spring of 1870, P.T. Barnum embarked on an extensive, highly publicized overland tour of the American West via the newly completed transcontinental railroad, spending several weeks exploring California and staging excursions into Yosemite Valley. John P. Soule published a celebrated suite of California views that same year (many photographed on negative plates supplied by San Francisco operators or taken during direct field expeditions), and this image of Barnum’s party at the foot of Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls stands among the most famous celebrity depictions recorded in the valley during the early national park movement.

[Stereoview, Stereocard, Yosemite Valley, California, Western Americana, John P. Soule, P.T. Barnum, Phineas Taylor Barnum, Yosemite Falls, Sentinel House, Glacier Point, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, Sierra Nevada, Transcontinental Railroad, 19th Century Photography]

Very good condition overall. The albumen prints exhibit rich sepia tone, sharp focal clarity, and balanced highlights, with faint age-toning and minor handling wear to the card margins.
