7.5x54mm. 23" barrel. SN: F4754. Parkerized finish overall with hardwood semi-pistol grip stock, full length upper handguard, and featuring socket spike bayonet. Direct gas impingement driven tilting bolt semi-automatic rifle fed by detachable magazines charged with stripper clips. Item features an adjustable tangent rear aperture and hooded front blade sight. Left receiver is marked MAS MLE 1944 followed by the serial number. Serial numbers match on receiver, forend, butt, bolt carrier, and bolt. Dustcover does not match. Comes with number matching cruciform spike bayonet. C.A.I. importer markings below muzzle.

Developed in secret using Pre-War French self-loading rifles as its foundation, the Mle 1944 rifle was selected for adoption by the French military as its official semi-automatic arm to compete with the likes of the M1 Garand. However, a series of improvements to the design resulted in the Mle 1949, resulting in a very short production run for its predecessor. In all, it is estimated that only about 6,200 Mle 44 rifles were delivered in total, making this a scarce rifle which laid the foundation for France's post-war rifle making program. {C&R}

Very Good Plus. Bore is Very Bright with crisp rifling throughout and some dust. Metal finish with some light internal cycling wear, abrasion to upper buttplate, and some traced edgewear scattered over receiver. Stock with some stains and few handling dents. Bayonet shows some grease residues overall. Mechanically functional when cycled by hand.
