A sensitive and moving poster showing a mother clutches her son in shock after receiving the dreaded "next of kin has been notified..." letter from the Navy Department. Rendered in somber, muted tones, the poster exhorts American workers of the stakes, proclaiming, "YOUR WORK WILL SAVE LIVES."

Gonzalez's powerful image was so effective it was used again in 1943 by the U.S. Treasury on posters promoting war bonds during the 4th War Loan campaign.
