EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF OVER 850 PHOTOGRAPHS IN 9 ALBUMS FEATURING TRENCH WARFARE, AIRCRAFT, ARTILLERY

Nine (9) photo albums housing approximately 859 photographs total. France, 1915-1917. Each image approx. 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 in. Most pages with hand-written French captions tipped in. Cloth-bound albums with cardstock pages, each approx 8 x 7 1/4 in.

A remarkable soldier's photographic archive from the front lines of World War I. Housed in 9 albums, the collection includes over 850 photographs that capture the realities of soldiering. In addition to the portraits of his fellow soldiers, local towns, and landscapes, the collection notably includes several important images documenting the artillery and aircraft used by the French Army. There are several images of airplanes as well as a captured Drachen-type observation dirigible, often called the "flying sausage." Also included are multiple shots of Farman flying scouts, likely being used for artillery spotting.

Other notable subjects include multiple shots of the famous French 75s, what appears to be a field kitchen, a camouflaged artillery command post, an anti-aircraft searchlight fitted to what may be a Peugeot automobile, and heavy De Bange guns (possibly 120mm given size).

Interestingly, an album includes a single photograph of what appear to be Moroccan troops wearing distinctive formless hats.

An excellent soldier's photograph collection.
