RARE ILLUSTRATED “WELLS FARGO & CO.” COVER

1878 SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA MERCANTILE LETTER

Autograph letter. San Francisco, [California], 23 September 1878. 1 page, 4to, with illustrated Well's Fargo

A letter, evidently regarding business matters, written by one of the proprietors of Lemoine, Gambert & Co., a grocer in San Jose, California. First opened in 1854 by J. Lemoine and G. Fremont, they hired Lemoine's French nephew in 1860 as a clerk. Turel took on more responsibilities, eventually running the store by 1893. The letter was likely penned by Turel. The store would operate in various iterations until 1834.

Notably, the original "Wells Fargo & Co." illustrated cover is included touting "Over our California and Coast Routes."

[Manuscripts, Documents, Letters, Ephemera, Signatures, Autographs] [Western Americana, Western History, Western Expansion, Wild West]
