.54 caliber. 9.75" pinned barrel. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture with lobed butt cap, walnut stock. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading flintlock pistol made without sights and with an old wooden ramrod. Flat stepped flintlock with integral rounded, fenced and bridled pan and a faceted swan neck cock. Lock marked "J. HENRY" horizontally under the pan and "PHILA" vertically at the tail. Lock remains in original flint. No other markings are noted, other than the initials "PB" carved on the reverse wrist above the counterpane. 

Joseph Henry was one of the early contract makers of US marital pistols, receiving contracts for 150 pairs in 1807 and 600 pairs in 1808. In addition to these official US military contract arms, he also produced pistols of the same basic design for sale to militias, states and the general public. This is one of those militia type pistols as it is void of any US markings. Production is believed to be rather limited, and there is no doubt that many of these guns saw use during the War of 1812. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore dark and oxidized with some pitting. Metal moderately oxidized with scatted surface roughness and discoloration blending with a mottled brownish patina. Brass with a nice dark mustard appearance.  Markings on lock remain legible, no other markings noted other than the carved initials on the stock. Lock remains mechanically functional and is in original flint. Stock with moderate wear and the forend cut back about .75" from its original, full length. Wood solid wits scattered bumps, dings and mars.
